Major Shifts at Pentagon Anticipated in Obama Administration

Obama Ousting Top Bush Pentagon Officials... Besides Gates
Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, Gates"s right-hand man in running the Pentagon day to day, is widely expected to leave his post, said the officials, one of whom noted that England"s speechwriter is reportedly taking another job.
Leading candidates to replace England include Obama campaign adviser Richard J. Danzig, who could eventually replace Gates; Pentagon transition review team co-leader Michle A. Flournoy; and possibly former Pentagon comptroller William J. Lynn, said Obama transition officials and sources close to the transition.
The anticipated turnover of many key positions suggests that although Gates will help provide some continuity, the status quo will not necessarily endure at the Pentagon.
Continuity is likely to come in the form of Gates and military commanders leading the war effort in Iraq and Afghanistan, while a new deputy and team of undersecretaries would manage the Pentagon and focus on longer-range issues such as "the budget, the Quadrennial Defense Review, missile defense, relations with allies and preparation for the next crisis," said Michael O"Hanlon, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution.
The four undersecretaries of defense are also expected to leave, Pentagon and transition officials said. These include Undersecretary for Policy Eric S. Edelman, who has announced that he will depart by Jan. 20, with Flournoy also a candidate to replace him. John J. Young Jr., undersecretary for acquisition, technology and logistics, is "without question" leaving, a source close to the transition said, noting that Gates has publicly criticized the Pentagon"s unwieldy acquisition process as shortchanging U.S. troops in the field.

Feingold blocks measure commemorating Reagans birth

Good for you Feingold, give them some of their own back, they played their little games for the last 8 years.
Source: Raw Story
The 100th anniversary of Ronald Reagans birth is just around the corner. Not surprisingly, Republicans are looking to pass legislation commemorating the centennial of his birth.
But Democratic Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) is standing in their way.
The Wisconsin Democrat says his refusal to let the Reagan bill move to a vote in the full Senate has nothing to do with maligning President Reagan. Instead, he says hes trying to have a noncontroversial measure passed.
Feingold wants to attach an amendment to the bill that would create two commissions to examine the internment and restrictions of German and Italian Americans and Jewish refugees during World War II. A similar measure passed the Senate in 2007 but failed when included in a larger immigration bill. LinkHere

Madame Zalora

I asked Madame Zalora what she thought of Centex"s latest sales pitch.

Her Crystal Ball replied a sarcastic "big deal".
Her more detailed response (that I had to pay extra for) was:

A 30-40 day price guarantee? Who cares?
Besides that is listing price which is unlikely to move as much as discounted prices and incentives.

She also admonished me.
"You really did not need a crystal ball to answer that, now did you?"

"How long will it be before they give a one year price guarantee?" I responded.

"Sorry, Madame Zalora only answers one question a day per customer" was all she said.

On Health Care, Americans Trust Obama And Dems Far More Than GOP: Poll

When it comes to reforming the U.S. health care system, Americans are more confident in Barack Obama (58%) and Congressional Democrats (42%) than Congressional Republicans (34%), according to a Gallup Poll released today.
Of the eight prominent health care actors, Republicans are least trusted, behind even insurance companies, who have garnered 35% of the nation"s trust.
According to the study, doctors hold the confidence vote by a notable margin, winning over 73% of Americans, ahead of health care professors and researchers, at 62%.
The results come two days after President Obama delivered a major speech to the American Medical Association, pitching his reform agenda. The AMA, an influential lobby comprising of doctors, has thus far been hesitant to support the president"s public health care alternative.
Also today, Republicans in Congress released their counter-proposal to the Democratic health care plan. As reported by Roll Call, it"s pretty thin: LinkHere

Got 20 years everyone?

Just months before the start of last year"s stock market collapse, the federal agency that insures the retirement funds of 44 million Americans departed from its conservative investment strategy and decided to put much of its $64 billion insurance fund into stocks.
Switching from a heavy reliance on bonds, the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation decided to pour billions of dollars into speculative investments such as stocks in emerging foreign markets, real estate, and private equity funds. ...
Analysts expressed concern that large portions of the trust fund might have been lost at a time when many private pension plans are suffering major losses. The guarantee fund would be the only way to cover the plans if their companies go into bankruptcy.
And who was responsible, exactly?
Charles E.F. Millard, the former agency director who implemented the strategy until the Bush administration departed on Jan. 20, dismissed such concerns. Millard, a former managing director of Lehman Brothers, said flatly that "the new investment policy is not riskier than the old one." ...
Asked whether the strategy was a mistake, given the subsequent declines in stocks and real estate, Millard said, "Ask me in 20 years. The question is whether policymakers will have the fortitude to stick with it."

With One Word, Bernanke Reveals Who Actually Runs the Country

Yesterday, in his appearance before Congress, Bernanke revealed with a single word who really runs the United States:

Senator Sanders: "Will you tell the American people to whom you lent $2.2 trillion of their dollars?"

Bernanke: "No"
No?

Indeed, Bernanke and Treasury refuse to provide this information even confidentially and off-the-record to Congress. And the official overseer of the TARP bailout program can"t even get the information of where all the bailout money is going. See also this.

With his single word "no", Bernanke revealed that Congress is impotent and out of the loop. In other words, Congress doesn"t really run the country in the core area of business, finance and the economy. The financial giants and their servants at the Fed and Treasury do.

Indeed, Bernanke"s testimony is related to - and as important as - the fact that the warmongers gave themselves dictatorial powers.

The warmongers and the financial elite run the country. The people and their elected representatives do not, except to the extent that those representatives play ball with the real powers-that-be behind the scenes.

This has actually been going on for some time, as the following quotes show.

"The real rulers in Washington are invisible, and exercise power from behind the scenes."
- Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter, 1952

"Since I entered politics, I have chiefly had men"s views confided to me privately. Some of the biggest men in the United States, in the Field of commerce and manufacture, are afraid of something. They know that there is a power somewhere so organized, so subtle, so watchful, so interlocked, so complete, so pervasive, that they better not speak above their breath when they speak in condemnation of it."
- Woodrow Wilson, The New Freedom (1913)

"Behind the ostensible government sits enthroned an invisible government owing no allegiance and acknowledging no responsibility to the people. To destroy this invisible government, to befoul the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day."
- Theodore Roosevelt

"A power has risen up in the government greater than the people themselves, consisting of many and various powerful interests, combined in one mass, and held together by the cohesive power of the vast surplus in banks."
- John C. Calhoun, Vice President of the United States

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies...The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the Government, to whom it properly belongs."
- Thomas Jefferson

"If the people only understood the rank injustice of our Money and Banking system, there would be a revolution before morning."
- Andrew Jackson

"There is an evil which ought to be guarded against in the indefinite accumulation of property from the capacity of holding it in perpetuity bycorporations. The power of all corporations ought to be limited in this respect. The growing wealth acquired by them never fails to be a source of abuses."
- James Madison

"In this point of the case the question is distinctly presented whether the people of the United States are to govern through representatives chosen by their unbiased suffrages or whether the money and power of a great corporation are to be secretly exerted to influence their judgment and control their decisions."
- Andrew Jackson

"I am more than ever convinced of the dangers to which the free and unbiased exercise of political opinion -- the only sure foundation and safeguard of republican government -- would be exposed by any further increase of the already overgrown influence of corporate authorities."
- Martin Van Buren, Eighth President of the United States

"As we view the achievements of aggregated capital, we discover the existence of trusts, combinations, and monopolies, while the citizen is struggling far in the rear or is trampled to death beneath an iron heel. Corporations, which should be the carefully restrained creatures of the law and the servants of the people, are fast becoming the people"s masters."
- Grover Cleveland, 22nd and 24th President of the United States

"In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military-industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted."
- Dwight D. Eisenhower

"There exists a shadowy Government with its own Air Force, its own Navy, its own fundraising mechanism, and the ability to pursue its own ideas of national interest, free from all checks and balances, and free from the law itself."
- Senator Daniel K. Inouye

"You dont have a clue of whats going on in the government, and neither do the American people. If they did, there would be a revolution in this country.
-
Texas governor and quintessential political insider John Connally
